Midnight Frost by Jennifer Estep (ARC)

Midnight Frost (Mythos Academy, #5)Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can’t get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities — until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I’m still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.

As Nike’s Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I’m still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I’ve got to get my hands on the antidote fast — otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins — and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there.

The Reapers are at it again. Determined more than ever to rid the world of our poor gypsy girl, they use a Reaper classmate to sneak poison into her water. Well, I use the term sneak loosely, 'cause Gwen actually catches him doing it. Unfortunately, she was too late to stop someone else from taking a swig and now that person's life hangs in the balance. And wouldn't you know it, the antidote requires a flower that only grows in one place, so they know they're headed right into an ambush.

I'm not gonna lie. The Mythos Academy books are simple and completely predictable in every way possible. You know when she befriends or aids a stranger or creature, that favor will be returned, and you always know the exact moment a person will suddenly come to the rescue (yeah, you know who I'm talking about). But there's something about Gwen the gypsy girl and her mythological friends that keeps me coming back for more. If you're a fan of the series, you'll be happy with Midnight Frost.
